In January, I discovered I had been victorious in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc lottery; I gained a spot in the famous 100 miler's sister race: CCC 100k.
It will be my first race of that distance, and it will by no means be a gentle testing of the waters. I'm jumping headfirst into the cold and dark unknown.
As one of the hardest 100ks in the world, I will be running partly around Mont Blanc from Courmayeur, Italy to Champex, Switzerland and finishing in Chamonix, France. I will have gained 18,000 vertical feet while touring the impressive and picturesque Alps.
Yes, I am scared shitless. But I am also out of my mind excited. My first 100k (REAL ultra!), international race, hard vertical, and many more all rolled into one exciting event. I feel as if I can really do well in this race and debut my name/face in the ultra running world!
Right now I am trying my absolute best to get to the start line trained, prepared mentally, and geared up correctly for this adventure. Meghan "Queen" Arboghast is my coach, which I am super psyched about having her in my back pocket for advice, training, and etc!
So far, I have Black Diamond trekking poles and a S-lab Salomon 12 set pack. I am still finding other parts for the intense, required gear list in terms of apparel and how to sustain myself nutritionally.
If you know of any hostels in Chamonix, France for beginning of August, please let me know! Also, if you have any advice on gear, training, etc please also feel free to share!
I look forward to sharing my progress and this great adventure!!
